"Falcon Down" - March 4, 2006

The Ottawa County technical Rescue Team was established 2005 with the intent to provide Ottawa County with yet another resource to protect our citizens and all who might require our assistance. Ottawa County already has many great resources that serve within the Counties boundaries which include eleven different volunteer fire departments, three different volunteer ambulance services and one paid / volunteer ambulance service. We also have two different city law enforcement agencies and the Sheriff’s Department. All of these entities cover the county, which consist of 720 square miles, twelve different communities and a growing rural population. Even with all of these dedicated departments Ottawa County still did not have trained personnel or the equipment to perform specialized rescues. And now thanks in part to your Ottawa County Commissioners, Emergency Management and the hard work of the volunteers of the Ottawa County Rescue Team we now have the capability to perform high angle rescue, low angle rescue, confined space rescue, scuba diving and organized ground searches. The Rescue Team is also working toward getting members trained in ice rescue and swift water rescue among numerous other endless possibilities. We now have two team member who are certified instructors and two other team members working towards thier instructor certification. This will undoubtedly benefit the county in many ways some of which include getting highly qualified personnel trained at minimal cost and a flexible training schedule that will allow us the ability to train new members as they join the team.
